(As I mentioned last time, my number of visits to the rest of the world are....erm....limited! Germany, Sweeden and Norway, and that´s it....One of the countries I would like to visit one day is England, that´s for sure. It seems to me quite easy to imagine the great pleasure by travelling across England together with Winterfylleth-frontman Chris Naughton while drinking loads of english tea and maybe....erm....something a little bit stronger :-) Naughton is, in my opinion, one of the most down to earth and talented frontmen, the black metal-genre has to offer. So it might be kinda cool letting him guide me through England and learning about its history....not to mention Winterfylleth´s intelligent take on black metal. The Manchester-based band´s third full-length "The threnody of triumph" is a brilliant lesson in how, norwegian black metal can be taken a couple of steps further and into something, I think, truly english....:-) I simply LOVE the album from start to finish, especially when it comes to track 5 "The glorious plain". Glorious? INDEED :-) :-) :-)

(I´m not much of a traveller....(to say the least :-))....Actually besides Denmark I´ve only been in the northern area of Germany, the southern area of Sweeden and....erm....somewhere in Norway, (but that was way before the word "corpsepaint" became common language in the metal-world :-)).

Helsingborg in Sweeden, (melo-thrashers Soilwork´s hometown), leaves one of my best summerholiday-memories, when I was a child. Many summers me and my brother and our parents went on vacation in Denmark in the Elsinore-area in the near of Sweeden, and everytime we took the ferry from Elsinore to Helsingborg....and back :-) Nothing special but great cosiness....not to forget the delicious dutch licorice, we bought on-board....:-)

....AND NOW TO THE MUSIC....and this little shining pearl "Epitome" by Soilwork, taken from 2010´s awesome full-length "The panic broadcast". Last month Soilwork released the double disc-album "The living infinite", and I´m warming up to meet this....erm....GIANT :-) by listening to its predecessor...."Epitome" seems to me quite fascinating :-) Anonymous in a way, very simple in another, but "Epitome" is with no doubt "The panic...."-track, I like and remember the most!! As one says: "Less is more". Damn true words :-)

(Actually I´m librarian-educated and have worked in many different libraries. But NOW....well....I´m working in another area, not that far from the libraries....but well....it´s kinda different :-) The year of 1993 was the year, when I graduated from The Danish Royal School of Librarianship, but it was also the year, when I discovered Paradise Lost, thanks to their awesome DON´T-TAKE-YOUR-OWN-LIFE-BREAK THROUGH-ALBUM "Icon". An album that has become a classic through the years :-)

Several years on, Lost´ guitarist Gregor Mackintosh has released this excellent side-projekt VALLENFYRE, death metal at its finest!!! (Among others together with Hamish from My Dying Bride :-)). The full length-debut "A fragile king" from 2011 is an album, that you really can´t overlook, and one of the things that makes the album so special is Greg´s vocal :-) It´s really amazing, that this man delivers one of the greatest growls ever in the metal-history, but he does....

Vallenfyre is pretty much based on the death of Greg´s father John, who died from cancer december 2, 2009, in the age of 73. A great great father, who was a huge inspiration for Greg, and "Seeds"....well....it´s the PROOF :-) A great great song, that simply blew me away the very first time, I was listening to it...."Seeds" has to be the ultimate tribute!!!

(Thanks to my much beloved UK-heavy metal-magazine "Terrorizer" I discovered Hatebreed in the very beginning of this year....One might argue: "It´s damn late, Mr. Heavy-Skov!!!", considering the fact, Hatebreed have been around for several years now, and are very familiar with the keyword "Success"....But as we say here in Denmark: "Better late than never!", (at least some of us do....ha ha....).

The cover of the january-issue of Terrorizer is graced by Hatebreed-frontman Jamey Jasta, and inside he gives this interesting interview, where he sounds really friendly, down to earth and intelligent. So I was thinking to myself after reading the interview: "I´ll bet you can do worse than buying "The divinity of purpose"....:-)".

"The divinity of purpose", Hatebreed´s brand new opus, is now to find in my collection, and I haven´t in any second been regretting the buy! The album is great entertainment from start to finish, not that original, but with some very cool stand out-tracks like for example the opener "Put it to the torch", the titel-song and...."BEFORE THE FIGHT ENDS YOU"!

"Before the fight...." really reminds me of one of my favorite-bands Pro-Pain, and everything that sounds like Gary Meskil and Co. gets a smiling reaction from me....:-) ENJOY the song, (heavenly Crossover: mixture of hardcore and metal), and remember not to give up, when you have to struggle with everyday´s smaller and bigger problems! Changing your way of thinking might be the answer :-)

(The year of 2003....well, what can I say....to me it was a year loaded with unemployment! Actually I was looking for a job the whole year and didn´t find any....:-( BUT I remember with a smile those peaceful mornings that year, when I was sitting in my lovely armchair drinking coffee STRONG AS HELL, listening to music STRONG AS HELL, and reading books STRONG AS....well, not THAT strong to be honest....ha ha....

The year of 2003....well....it was also a year, where I discovered Krisiun :-) Three brothers from Brazil, who contribute to the death metal-scene in the most positive way....They´re to say the least DEDICATED :-) "Works of carnage" was the album, that blew me away back in 2003, and while I was....erm....flying, I was wondering: "Can death metal be any darker than this???".

I´m not sure about the right answer to that question, but I know Krisiun´s kind of death metal is filled with darkness, and their latest release, 2011´s "The great execution", is definitely no exception :-) Probably the brazilians best album so far....with death-songwriting at its best and a lot of songs really hard to forget! (Not that I´m expecting you to try....ha ha....). Today´s update is my ultimate favorite-track from "The great....", namely the totally awesome "Violentia gladiatore". LISTEN, AGREE and ENJOY :-)

(Well, well, well....today´s big surprise, I think :-) The update is on some days before, I expected! ENJOY :-)

In the beginning of last month my nephew turned 9 years old and one of his presents was a so-called "Cajón", that has something to do with his drumming. Yes, he keeps on practising in order to become one of the world´s greatest heavy metal-drummers....erm....at least one of the world´s greatest drummers....ha ha....because I´m not quite sure, that I´m able to make him feel passionate about the heavy metal-genre....Only time will tell :-)

I don´t know at what age, the Texan Proscriptor McGovern started out his drumming, but today he´s definitely one of my favorites behind the drums! And the fact that he´s a very talented black-vocalist too only makes him the more impressive :-)

The latest Absu-album "Abzu", released 2011, is quite different compared to its predecessor "Absu" from 2009....More stripped-down musically and shorter in running-time, and I think "Abzu" is a SLIGHTLY better album. My ultimate favorite-tracks on "Abzu" are "Skrying in the spirit vision" and today´s update "Circles of the oath"....A DAMN WELL BLACK METAL-SONG WITH....(AND HERE WE GO AGAIN :-))....A GREAT RIFF!!!

(Do you remember Ritchie Blackmore´s classic riff from the classic Deep Purple-song "Smoke on the water"? Of course you do, or at least I hope so....ha ha....This totally unforgettable and, (as I have been told), quite easy riff to play was one of the reasons, why I got hooked on the heavy metal-genre back in the late 1980´s. Since that time an endless stream of great heavy metal-riffs have passed through my life, and last month the greatest death metal-riff ever hit my ears....Namely the opening/closing riff from the Nile-song "The gods who light up the sky at the Gate of Sethu" taken from last year´s Nile-album "At the Gate of Sethu". This riff is totally stunning to say the least!!! The very first time I was listening to it, I was like WTF....How on earth did I end in heaven from one moment to another....ha ha....

....And the new Nile-album as a whole? I like it, I REALLY REALLY REALLY like it :-) In fact I consider "At the Gate of Sethu" their best sine my ultimate Nile-favorite "In their darkened shrines" from 2002! It just sounds so fresh and some of the songs included on "At the Gate...." have this charming PUNK-feeling to it....PUNK AND NILE?!?!....To be honest: I didn´t see it coming....ha ha....

(Actually I was beginning to think, that "The age of Nero" was the very last album ever from legendary norwegian black metal-duo Satyricon, because it has been five long years since the album was released back in 2008....but luckily I was totally wrong :-) A few weeks ago the sweet rumour hit my ears....SOFT AND GENTLY....that there´s a new Satyricon-full length in the horizon, set for a september-release! And me who thought the time of miracles was gone with the wind....ha ha....

I will not claim to be the biggest Satyricon-fan on earth, but Satyr and Frost´s....erm....dare I say....academic(!) contributions to the black metal-genre are just so important to keep the BLACK-FLAME alive. Let´s celebrate the great news with this dark, slow and freezing cold closer from "The age of Nero"...."Den siste"! The words "den siste" are norwegian for "the last one", but luckily it didn´t turn out this way, thank God....or should I say....Satan?! :-)
