"The wreckage of my flesh" by My Dying Bride, (with lyrics)

My Dying Bride:"The wreckage of my flesh", (from the album "Songs of darkness, words of light", 2004):

Loathsome I´ve become,
A creature so undone,
Wretched and broken,
Cannot find my faith,
Any God will do,
Nothing said is new,
Nothing said is true,
Fly away my hope.

The embrace of shade holds me dear,
Eats me away,
Loose the dogs of disgrace upon me,
I have no faith,
Raise the poor outcast I´ve become,
I am undone,
Calm is the air. Still is the sea,
The valley of death keeps calling me.

Rest my eyes from the world,
This dying place, it´s so absurd,
Oh, Christ above, whom I love,
Lost to me. My snow white dove,
Make this day like the night,
Songs of darkness. Words of light,
Pulling down my heart,
I won´t forget my lovers heart.

With utter loathing and scorn,
I was somehow born,
Strewn in black decay,
None shall I obey,
The wreckage of my flesh,
The nakedness of my death.

(I think, I have mentioned this before....I believe in reincarnation :-) I believe in the thought, that we have been here before, and that there´s life after death. That we´re going to return to earth after 150-200 years on "the other side", unless we have nothing more to learn as a human being. Maybe I´m wrong, maybe I´m right, but regardless it´s my belief....

My Dying Bride....I remember clearly one of the very first times, I was listening to the opening "Songs of darkness...."-track "The wreckage of my flesh"....It was 2004, either late february or early march, and I was suddenly thinking to myself in the mid-part of this utterly melancholic song: "Well....this could easily been played at a funeral-scene in one movie!". In fact I started imagining this fictive scene, while the music flew away :-) That was back then....

In the very beginning of this year I was reading one day in UK-heavy meatal-magazine "Terrorizer", that one of Winterfylleth-frontman Chris Naughton´s ultimate favorite songs is....well...."The wreckage of my flesh" :-) I have to admit, that I haven´t really been listening that much to "The wreckage...." since 2004, but thanks to Naughton things have changed for the better here in 2013 :-) It´s definitely one of My Dying Bride´s most complete and finest tracks ever....

See you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics and this time it´s about the winner of all winners from the new My Dying Bride-album "A map of all our failures"....and YES!!!, the album is actually filled with winners :-)

See you!

Kind regards
Carsten

"The glorious plain" by Winterfylleth, (with lyrics)

Winterfylleth:"The glorious plain", (from the album "The threnody of triumph", 2012):

That tract of earth is not, over mid-earth,
Fellow too many peopled lands,
But it is withdrawn,
Through creations might,
From wicked men!

Beauteous is the plain,
With enchantments blessed,
With the sweetness of earth,
Distinctive is the island,
And noble its makers,
Who the land founded

That is a pleasant plain,
Green wolds,
Spacious under blue skies;
There may not rain nor snow,
Nor rage of frost, nor fire´s blast,
Nor fall of hail, nor heat of sun,
Nor barren cold, nor winter shower,
The plain endures forever

That glorious land is higher by twelve fold
Of fathom measure,
As us the skilful have informed,
Sages, through wisdom,
In writings show,
Than any of those hills
That brightly here with us
Tower high!
Under the stars,
Serenity lies ´oer the glorious plain,
The sunny bower glitters
The trees ever stand green!

That noble land with blossoms filled
Nor hills nor mountains there
Nor stony cliffs towering high,
As here with us,
Nor mountain-caves & hilly chains
Thereon rests aught unsmooth,
The noble fields dwell under skies
With delights in bloom!

(As I mentioned last time, my number of visits to the rest of the world are....erm....limited! Germany, Sweeden and Norway, and that´s it....One of the countries I would like to visit one day is England, that´s for sure. It seems to me quite easy to imagine the great pleasure by travelling across England together with Winterfylleth-frontman Chris Naughton while drinking loads of english tea and maybe....erm....something a little bit stronger :-) Naughton is, in my opinion, one of the most down to earth and talented frontmen, the black metal-genre has to offer. So it might be kinda cool letting him guide me through England and learning about its history....not to mention Winterfylleth´s intelligent take on black metal. The Manchester-based band´s third full-length "The threnody of triumph" is a brilliant lesson in how, norwegian black metal can be taken a couple of steps further and into something, I think, truly english....:-) I simply LOVE the album from start to finish, especially when it comes to track 5 "The glorious plain". Glorious? INDEED :-) :-) :-)

See you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics, and this time....well....it has turned out, that Chris Naughton and I have the same taste in metal....BIG SURPRISE....or I mean NOT :-)

See you!

Kind regards
