(Well, well, well....today´s big surprise, I think :-) The update is on some days before, I expected! ENJOY :-)

In the beginning of last month my nephew turned 9 years old and one of his presents was a so-called "Cajón", that has something to do with his drumming. Yes, he keeps on practising in order to become one of the world´s greatest heavy metal-drummers....erm....at least one of the world´s greatest drummers....ha ha....because I´m not quite sure, that I´m able to make him feel passionate about the heavy metal-genre....Only time will tell :-)

I don´t know at what age, the Texan Proscriptor McGovern started out his drumming, but today he´s definitely one of my favorites behind the drums! And the fact that he´s a very talented black-vocalist too only makes him the more impressive :-)

The latest Absu-album "Abzu", released 2011, is quite different compared to its predecessor "Absu" from 2009....More stripped-down musically and shorter in running-time, and I think "Abzu" is a SLIGHTLY better album. My ultimate favorite-tracks on "Abzu" are "Skrying in the spirit vision" and today´s update "Circles of the oath"....A DAMN WELL BLACK METAL-SONG WITH....(AND HERE WE GO AGAIN :-))....A GREAT RIFF!!!

(Do you remember Ritchie Blackmore´s classic riff from the classic Deep Purple-song "Smoke on the water"? Of course you do, or at least I hope so....ha ha....This totally unforgettable and, (as I have been told), quite easy riff to play was one of the reasons, why I got hooked on the heavy metal-genre back in the late 1980´s. Since that time an endless stream of great heavy metal-riffs have passed through my life, and last month the greatest death metal-riff ever hit my ears....Namely the opening/closing riff from the Nile-song "The gods who light up the sky at the Gate of Sethu" taken from last year´s Nile-album "At the Gate of Sethu". This riff is totally stunning to say the least!!! The very first time I was listening to it, I was like WTF....How on earth did I end in heaven from one moment to another....ha ha....

....And the new Nile-album as a whole? I like it, I REALLY REALLY REALLY like it :-) In fact I consider "At the Gate of Sethu" their best sine my ultimate Nile-favorite "In their darkened shrines" from 2002! It just sounds so fresh and some of the songs included on "At the Gate...." have this charming PUNK-feeling to it....PUNK AND NILE?!?!....To be honest: I didn´t see it coming....ha ha....

(Actually I was beginning to think, that "The age of Nero" was the very last album ever from legendary norwegian black metal-duo Satyricon, because it has been five long years since the album was released back in 2008....but luckily I was totally wrong :-) A few weeks ago the sweet rumour hit my ears....SOFT AND GENTLY....that there´s a new Satyricon-full length in the horizon, set for a september-release! And me who thought the time of miracles was gone with the wind....ha ha....

I will not claim to be the biggest Satyricon-fan on earth, but Satyr and Frost´s....erm....dare I say....academic(!) contributions to the black metal-genre are just so important to keep the BLACK-FLAME alive. Let´s celebrate the great news with this dark, slow and freezing cold closer from "The age of Nero"...."Den siste"! The words "den siste" are norwegian for "the last one", but luckily it didn´t turn out this way, thank God....or should I say....Satan?! :-)

(Sometimes I really have a hard time, when it comes to "The next great heavy metal-song...." :-) It´s not always that easy making the decision which song to put on, TRUST ME....ha ha....Take for an example the new Testament-album "Dark roots of earth", which is, in my opinion, loaded with thrash-winners....I almost went through all of the songs included before I ended up with....erm....the end, the closer "Last stand for independence". This charming energy-thrasher is a perfect way to end a perfect album, it simply makes you wanna push the PLAY-button once again, which can be kinda frustrating, when you have other things to be done....ha ha....

Yes, I love the "Dark roots of earth"-album, I really do, but it took me some listenings really getting into it....Luckily songs like "Native blood" and the titel-song helped me on the way :-) One of the things, that makes the album such a killer, is the STRONG songwriting....There´s simply no way Testament can deny it: THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR MORE THAN 25 YEARS :-)

(Three years have passed, since black metallers Rotting Christ came up with "Aealo", the most recent full-length from Sakis & Co., and three years more since its predecessor "Theogonia"....erm....hit the road. The greeks are definitely not in a hurry studio-wise, but I can easily live with that, as long as the results cry "QUALITY!!!"....ha ha....

Both "Aealo" and "Theogonia" were january-releases and were, to say the least, perfect ways to start a new year off :-) This time around we´ll have to wait for spring, before the year really kicks in :-), because Rotting Christ´s next album, "Kata ton daimona eaytoy", is set for a march-release....But again, I can easily live with that "as long....", and I´m quite sure it will! "Kata ton daimona eaytoy" is probably going to be one of 2013´s greatest records :-)

While we´re waiting for "Kata...." to show up, let´s be entertaining ourselves with this great "Theogonia"-track "Enuma elish", and please don´t miss the beautiful angel-choir during the song! Alright, it´s totally impossible, I know :-)

(By a coincidence this little "grind-pearl", ("Consume to contaminate"), was landing in my hands one day in the year, that now has gone!! Well, of course it wasn´t a coincidence at all....ha ha....I remember clearly me whispering "Yesssssss!!!!!!!", when I finally found it in my favorite record-shop after several tries :-)

"Consume to contaminate" is the finnish grinders Rotten Sound´s predecessor to the excellent "Cycles"-album from 2008, and is nearly as good. If you are into, like I am, Napalm Death and Brutal Truth, Rotten Sound is highly recommendable! Their music simply blows your soul away....ha ha....or at least your frustrations will be leaving you for a while :-)

Actually I was on my way to put "Consume...."-track number two "Loss" on my blog, because this song absolutely has what it takes to get your attention :-) But I couldn´t find "Loss" on Youtube in an album-version(?!?!) Instead you´ll get the opener "Decay"...., and I think it goes without saying, that this is a fair second-choice :-) Listen and enjoy and try to ignore your hangover....ha ha....or maybe NOT ha ha....

(We´re ending this year with an incredibly beautiful song, that is "This cut is the deepest" from finnish doomsters Swallow the Sun´s latest album, this years "Emerald Forest and the Blackbird". In fact the majority of the songs included on "Emerald...." can easily be called beautiful, but for different reasons....But that said "This cut...." absolutely takes the prize :-)

2012 is about to be gone, and the year has, in my case, been quite exciting with some great experiences, but also a year not without difficulties. Life gives and it takes, that´s for sure...., and I think vocalist Mikko Kotamäki had this in mind, when he wrote the lyrics for today´s song.

Swallow the Sun is absolutely a band worth of mentioning, when we´re talking doom/gothic metal, and I think they have the talent to take over the throne, the one day My Dying Bride decide to retire. (If MDB retire, may God forbid....:-)).

(Sorry for the late update, but....well....here it is, and I´ll guess, it was worth the wait....:-)

I´m not quite sure, whether Dying Fetus´  third full-length "Destroy the opposition" was my very first meeting with these awesome Maryland-deathsters or not, but I think it was....But that said, I remember clearly my smiling reaction to this song-titel "Pissing in the mainstream", the very first time I saw it! This titel is just so funny and so original....and at the same time so normal when it comes to Dying Fetus: They never, to say the least, run short of a political comment :-)

Dying Fetus can easily be called one of the most political death metal-bands ever. They released a new album earlier this year called "Reign supreme", and my plans....erm....a part of my plans to be more precise....:-) is to buy a copy of "Reign...." next year. So don´t get surprised if a "Reign...."-song hits my blog one day or another. While we are waiting for this to happen, let´s all go pissing in the mainstream! It´s going to be wild, brutal and full of energy, and it takes 1 minute and 57 seconds....ha ha....
