"Sullen days" by Suffocation, (with lyrics)
Suffocation:"Sullen days", (from the album "Pinnacle of bedlam", 2013):
The broken ways, as I walk through the emptiness
Lost souls as empty as mine...
barren and desolate, foreseeing the irony
Abolish the self, merge into a singular space...
Confront the self, subduing the whim´s inside
No feelings to exude and portray the Sullen Days
As we hide from the bitterness
Embellish reality, or so your told...
No other way, to prepare for awakening
Condense the frail ridden mind
Keep without consciousness
To adhere to the ending days
The gods are not here for you now,
Expect a dichotomy
Ancient thoughts to prepare for the exodus
Shutter at what knowledge will hold
Sullen Days searching for a singular way
Now I conceive a brutal reality,
Just wanting to kill
Murder in mind, to silence a virus
Internal struggle containing the violence
Wanting to purge the earth
Denying my thoughts to obtain absolution
Pray my for soul to receive its ascension
Sullen Days as I dwell in this empty shell
Hopes of redemption decline
Festering hate inside - as I harbor the pain within
A tormented soul thats tortured and bound
- god fearing agony
Broken days, in my bitter reality
Conform thyself, I brood within
Prepare to die, as I wade through these Sullen Days,
They know not my plans of what destiny holds
What you don´t know, is silence can kill
What I know is silence will manifest
HATRED, brewing within me
I dream of KILLING
If thoughts could lash out, you´d all be dead
Now I conceive a brutal reality,
Just wanting to kill
Murder in mind, to silence a virus
Internal struggle containing the violence
Wanting to purge the earth
Denying my thoughts to obtain absolution
Pray my for soul to receive its ascension
Sullen Days as I dwell in this empty shell
Hopes of redemption decline
Festering hate inside - as I harbor the pain within
A tormented soul thats tortured and bound
- god fearing agony
Broken days, in my bitter reality
Conform thy self, I brood within
Prepare to die, as I wade through these Sullen Days,
They know not my plans of what destiny holds

(I hate to write this, but I´m a little disappointed, when it comes to the new full-length from legendary New York-deathsters Suffocation....Not that "Pinnacle of bedlam" is a bad album....you know, Suffocation are Suffocation :-) Plus the fact that vocalist Frank Mullen is capable of saving every single song thanks to his incredible work behind the mic! Mullen has definitely become one of my heroes, when we´re talking growlers of the death metal-scene....Pure genius :-)
No, "Pinnacle...." is not a bad album, but it´s an album, that suffers from average songwriting. It´s really hard to pinpoint some memorable tracks from it, (some stand-out tracks), except this one....track 5...."Sullen days". In fact I´ve found myself playing this catchy piece of death metal inside my head several times, since I discovered the song :-)
Check it out...."Pinnacle of bedlam" in general and "Sullen days" in particular....then agree or disagree and....well....see you later this month with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics :-) This time it´s some kind of a tribute to Mr. Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P). I know, this may sound totally confusing to you, but we´re returning to Norway and their much beloved black metal-scene. Some of its finest....:-)
See you :-)
Kind regards

"Red-skinned scapegoat" by Cryptopsy, (with lyrics)
Cryptopsy:"Red-skinned scapegoat", (from the album "Cryptopsy", 2012):
Shackled and
confined within this
tiny cell
I await punishment
for a crime I did not
commit
Flies and rats ac-
company me here
The bars gleam moist
with condensation
As I sit throughout
my last sunrise
This tiny island was
called Admiral when
I first arrived
Now it´s overpopu-
lated and infested
Framed for murder
Another red-skinned
scapegoat
My hatred of diver-
sity condemned me
The man they
believed I killed
Was sitting at peace
when he was shot in the back
His dinning room
table became his
deathbed
Flimsy evidence sup-
porting an airtight
case
The murder weapon
misplaced
Fallen coinciden-
tally to the bottom
of the lake
His wife glared at me
in the courtroom a
devilish stare I will
never forget
her tear-streaked
face
Radiated with a glint
of hope as the judge
revealed his verdict
So now I wait as the
sun slowly rises
Counting my last
hours
Pleading for
forgiveness
Although I am
guiltless
The time has now
arrived they are
standing outside
my chamber
The noose has been
set and the crowd
has gathered
The noon sun blinds
me, as I approach the
gallows
So much so that I
can´t see my family
weeping at the back
of the square
Tied and bound with
a burlapsac
over my head
I can only hear what
they are doing to me
The last thing I
perceive is the gasp
of the crowd
Just before the rope
swings taut
Framed for murder
Another red skinned
scapegoat
Left to hang
In another´s man
place
Framed for murder
Another red-skinned
scapegoat
Eternal red-skinned
scapegoat

(Actually I ain´t that familiar with canadian extreme deathsters....CRYPTOPSY, but I´m working hard on this obviously strong band :-) Oh....no....I mean, I take my time: NO NEED TO RUSH :-) Until now, I´ve "only" listened to two Cryptopsy-killers....last year´s phenomenal "Cryptopsy" and its predecessor, from 2008, "The unspoken king". To be honest "The unspoken...." seems to me less....erm....dangerous :-) than the new one, but no matter I like "The unspoken...." too!
Today´s update, "Red-skinned scapegoat", is....well....fascinating in different ways. The titel alone! However it was the jazz-part of the song, that really got me into "Red-skinned....". (I can´t help it, I´m jazz-influenced thanks to my father :-)). But....but....but....this song is more than jazz and an awesome songtitel, it´s also death-songwriting at its best. In fact this catchy and damned fine track, sent directly from....erm....heaven, keeps growing everytime, I listen to it....So why not share it with you :-)
See you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics and this time we´re heading back to the States. It´s all about suffering...."THE MULLEN-WAY"!!!!!!!
See you :-)
Kind regards

"The line between" by Baroness, (with lyrics)
Baroness:"The line between", (from the album "Yellow & green", 2012):
I turned my head up and the sky was empty
I wasn´t looking for paradise
And when I asked for comfort from the land of plenty
I came to realize...
You have taken this for granted
Please don´t take it all away
Feel the light of day. Feel it fade away
Walk the line between the righteous and the wicked
And tomorrow I´ll be gone...
I thrust my hands in ´til the nerves all went cold
I tasted silver and I tasted gold
And when the bandage lifted, our scars were newborn
We still felt everything...
I have taken this for granted
Please don´t take it all away
Feel the light of day. Feel it fade away
Walk the line between the righteous and the wicked
And tomorrow I´ll be gone...
Feel the light of day. Feel it fade away
Walk the line between the righteous and the wicked
And tomorrow I´ll be gone...
And tomorrow I´ll be gone...

(In this very moment I´m listening to Clutch´ latest full-length "Earth rocker"....AND IT´S ABSOLUTELY GREAT ENTERTAINMENT! Yes, I´m in a rock´n roll-phase, but don´t you worry, in this phase some extreme records are hitting my ears too....Proof to be shown soon :-)
This EXTREMEly late update, (sorry for that :-)), is from a band, that....well....actually are sounding more like mighty Mastodon than Clutch, but they´re not that far from Neil Fallon & Co. The band in case: Savannah´s BARONESS....
One can´t surely blame Baroness for being superficial....Last year´s third full-length, the double disc "Yellow & green" is not only a varied collection of quality-tracks within the sludge metal-genre, it´s also a journey into some of the darkest corners in life. The more I listen to "Yellow & green", the more layers of pain I find, so maybe it´s about time quitting the album....ha ha....Whatever "Yellow & green" is going to be one of my favorites of all times, there´s simply no way I can deny it :-)
The choice for this update ran between "Eula" and "The line between" and after ENDLESS SLEEPLESS NIGHTS....(no, just joking :-))...."The line between" finally convinced me! Great great song, and in fact one of the heaviest songs included on the whole double-album....ENJOY :-) and....
....see you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics and this time we´re heading to....CANADA!! I don´t think, we´ve been there before in the history of HEAVY-SKOV, and....well....let me put it short: Some extreme chaotic "noise" is in wait :-)
See you!
Kind regards

"A map of all our failures" by My Dying Bride, (with lyrics)
My Dying Bride:"A map of all our failures", (from the album "A map of all our failures", 2012):
I´m unaware of a response
From my errant dark red soul
Too deep to be spoken aloud
I bury a word right in my heart
Frost etched the tall windows
I have been cold for a long time
Borne upon winters shoulders
There are wolves here, many of them
I am staggered at their hatred of me
I lie in complete fear
I call the moths to tend me
I forget the form of my sin
And drained of motion, the air itself avoids me
And void of notion, unable to perceive
Mouth barely open, almost fearing to breathe
And there is no other sound at all
Just there, to the left, his shadow rose
I always knew he was coming
Takes the vacant chair beside me
With golden hands he moved the hair from my face

(Sometimes I get this feeling, that My Dying Bride and I are meant for each other....I mean, how often do you actually meet a band, that knows your inner thoughts and feelings better than yourself? :-)
The new MDB-album "A map of all our failures" is....well....what word would be the most appropriate to use? Let´s try with AWESOME to a start....ha ha....It has this truly majestic atmosphere surrounding it, and Aaron....erm....is the king :-) His vocal just gets better and better!!
Today´s update is the album´s titel-song and is a song, that....to be honest....hits something in me, I don´t really know what is....BUT I´LL KEEP ON SEARCHING....HA HA....The other seven "A map...."-songs are certainly filled with the well known MDB-quality, but the song "A map of all our failures" REALLY means something to me :-) This song is going to be a classic just like the aforementioned "The wreckage of my flesh", that´s for sure.
See you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics, and this time....well....I suppose, you don´t trust me, but I´ve actually found the new "Mastodon"....(Not that there´s anything wrong with the old....AT ALL :-)). And by the way, we´re heading to....SAVANNAH!
See you :-)

"The wreckage of my flesh" by My Dying Bride, (with lyrics)
My Dying Bride:"The wreckage of my flesh", (from the album "Songs of darkness, words of light", 2004):
Loathsome I´ve become,
A creature so undone,
Wretched and broken,
Cannot find my faith,
Any God will do,
Nothing said is new,
Nothing said is true,
Fly away my hope.
The embrace of shade holds me dear,
Eats me away,
Loose the dogs of disgrace upon me,
I have no faith,
Raise the poor outcast I´ve become,
I am undone,
Calm is the air. Still is the sea,
The valley of death keeps calling me.
Rest my eyes from the world,
This dying place, it´s so absurd,
Oh, Christ above, whom I love,
Lost to me. My snow white dove,
Make this day like the night,
Songs of darkness. Words of light,
Pulling down my heart,
I won´t forget my lovers heart.
With utter loathing and scorn,
I was somehow born,
Strewn in black decay,
None shall I obey,
The wreckage of my flesh,
The nakedness of my death.

(I think, I have mentioned this before....I believe in reincarnation :-) I believe in the thought, that we have been here before, and that there´s life after death. That we´re going to return to earth after 150-200 years on "the other side", unless we have nothing more to learn as a human being. Maybe I´m wrong, maybe I´m right, but regardless it´s my belief....
My Dying Bride....I remember clearly one of the very first times, I was listening to the opening "Songs of darkness...."-track "The wreckage of my flesh"....It was 2004, either late february or early march, and I was suddenly thinking to myself in the mid-part of this utterly melancholic song: "Well....this could easily been played at a funeral-scene in one movie!". In fact I started imagining this fictive scene, while the music flew away :-) That was back then....
In the very beginning of this year I was reading one day in UK-heavy meatal-magazine "Terrorizer", that one of Winterfylleth-frontman Chris Naughton´s ultimate favorite songs is....well...."The wreckage of my flesh" :-) I have to admit, that I haven´t really been listening that much to "The wreckage...." since 2004, but thanks to Naughton things have changed for the better here in 2013 :-) It´s definitely one of My Dying Bride´s most complete and finest tracks ever....
See you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics and this time it´s about the winner of all winners from the new My Dying Bride-album "A map of all our failures"....and YES!!!, the album is actually filled with winners :-)
See you!
Kind regards

"The glorious plain" by Winterfylleth, (with lyrics)
Winterfylleth:"The glorious plain", (from the album "The threnody of triumph", 2012):
That tract of earth is not, over mid-earth,
Fellow too many peopled lands,
But it is withdrawn,
Through creations might,
From wicked men!
Beauteous is the plain,
With enchantments blessed,
With the sweetness of earth,
Distinctive is the island,
And noble its makers,
Who the land founded
That is a pleasant plain,
Green wolds,
Spacious under blue skies;
There may not rain nor snow,
Nor rage of frost, nor fire´s blast,
Nor fall of hail, nor heat of sun,
Nor barren cold, nor winter shower,
The plain endures forever
That glorious land is higher by twelve fold
Of fathom measure,
As us the skilful have informed,
Sages, through wisdom,
In writings show,
Than any of those hills
That brightly here with us
Tower high!
Under the stars,
Serenity lies ´oer the glorious plain,
The sunny bower glitters
The trees ever stand green!
That noble land with blossoms filled
Nor hills nor mountains there
Nor stony cliffs towering high,
As here with us,
Nor mountain-caves & hilly chains
Thereon rests aught unsmooth,
The noble fields dwell under skies
With delights in bloom!

(As I mentioned last time, my number of visits to the rest of the world are....erm....limited! Germany, Sweeden and Norway, and that´s it....One of the countries I would like to visit one day is England, that´s for sure. It seems to me quite easy to imagine the great pleasure by travelling across England together with Winterfylleth-frontman Chris Naughton while drinking loads of english tea and maybe....erm....something a little bit stronger :-) Naughton is, in my opinion, one of the most down to earth and talented frontmen, the black metal-genre has to offer. So it might be kinda cool letting him guide me through England and learning about its history....not to mention Winterfylleth´s intelligent take on black metal. The Manchester-based band´s third full-length "The threnody of triumph" is a brilliant lesson in how, norwegian black metal can be taken a couple of steps further and into something, I think, truly english....:-) I simply LOVE the album from start to finish, especially when it comes to track 5 "The glorious plain". Glorious? INDEED :-) :-) :-)
See you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics, and this time....well....it has turned out, that Chris Naughton and I have the same taste in metal....BIG SURPRISE....or I mean NOT :-)
See you!

"Epitome" by Soilwork, (with lyrics)
Soilwork:"Epitome", (from the album "The panic broadcast", 2010):
Lost, it´s been a long time
For this moment to come
Lost, it´s been a long line
Where I´ve been waiting too long
All those words and the consequences
Won´t you please shed some light
All the fear and all that joy
Guide my way as I turn in desire
How it hurts when I give up
The way that it ends
Twist and turn till it erupts
The way it commands...
Lost, it´s been a long fight
And it kept holding on
Lost, it´s been a long sigh
It has been clearing my mind
All those years being overloaded
All the strength I put in
Let me share what I´ve done to myself
I´ve been losing to win
How it hurts when I give up
The way that it ends
Twist and turn till it erupts
The way it commands...
How it hurts when I give up
You don´t understand
Twist and turn, the way it looka
Into my eyes again
How it hurts when I give up
The way that it ends
Twist and turn till it erupts
The way it commands...
How it hurts when I give up
You don´t understand
Twist and turn, the way it looks
The way it commands...

(I´m not much of a traveller....(to say the least :-))....Actually besides Denmark I´ve only been in the northern area of Germany, the southern area of Sweeden and....erm....somewhere in Norway, (but that was way before the word "corpsepaint" became common language in the metal-world :-)).
Helsingborg in Sweeden, (melo-thrashers Soilwork´s hometown), leaves one of my best summerholiday-memories, when I was a child. Many summers me and my brother and our parents went on vacation in Denmark in the Elsinore-area in the near of Sweeden, and everytime we took the ferry from Elsinore to Helsingborg....and back :-) Nothing special but great cosiness....not to forget the delicious dutch licorice, we bought on-board....:-)
....AND NOW TO THE MUSIC....and this little shining pearl "Epitome" by Soilwork, taken from 2010´s awesome full-length "The panic broadcast". Last month Soilwork released the double disc-album "The living infinite", and I´m warming up to meet this....erm....GIANT :-) by listening to its predecessor...."Epitome" seems to me quite fascinating :-) Anonymous in a way, very simple in another, but "Epitome" is with no doubt "The panic...."-track, I like and remember the most!! As one says: "Less is more". Damn true words :-)
See you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics, and this time we´re heading back to England, where we´re going to stay for a little while....Next time it´s in Manchester....N-A-U-G-H-T-O-N :-)

"Seeds" by Vallenfyre, (with lyrics)
Vallenfyre:"Seeds", (from the album "A fragile king", 2011):
dreams of a former lifetime
scattered by the flame
no eye from heaven
and nothing but a name
resign my heart
poor beast sleep sound
for the seeds have spread
the blackest of days
farewell my king
you must rest your head
i face an eternal winter
without you i will cease
you were my idol
i am your priest
resign my heart
poor beast sleep sound
for the seeds have spread
the blackest of days
farewell my king
you must rest your head

(Actually I´m librarian-educated and have worked in many different libraries. But NOW....well....I´m working in another area, not that far from the libraries....but well....it´s kinda different :-) The year of 1993 was the year, when I graduated from The Danish Royal School of Librarianship, but it was also the year, when I discovered Paradise Lost, thanks to their awesome DON´T-TAKE-YOUR-OWN-LIFE-BREAK THROUGH-ALBUM "Icon". An album that has become a classic through the years :-)
Several years on, Lost´ guitarist Gregor Mackintosh has released this excellent side-projekt VALLENFYRE, death metal at its finest!!! (Among others together with Hamish from My Dying Bride :-)). The full length-debut "A fragile king" from 2011 is an album, that you really can´t overlook, and one of the things that makes the album so special is Greg´s vocal :-) It´s really amazing, that this man delivers one of the greatest growls ever in the metal-history, but he does....
Vallenfyre is pretty much based on the death of Greg´s father John, who died from cancer december 2, 2009, in the age of 73. A great great father, who was a huge inspiration for Greg, and "Seeds"....well....it´s the PROOF :-) A great great song, that simply blew me away the very first time, I was listening to it...."Seeds" has to be the ultimate tribute!!!
See you next time with yet another great heavy metal-song with lyrics, and this time we´re heading to Sweeden....CHILDHOOD-MEMORIES ARE ON :-)
See you :-)
Kind regards
Carsten
